Welcome to FAQ !
Q. What is acoustic treatment?

A. Let's put it very simple :

1. Acoustic treatment is to absorb unwanted reflections within a room, so listener can enjoy true direct sound from a recording and/or play back system. Clearer sound field and better sound imaging.

2. Balance frequency within a room by making low, mid and high frequency die away at the same time ( Flat respond ), eliminate room sound, like a boomy room because of bass frequency fade away much slower than high frequency. Creating a room with Flat respond is extremely important for mixing, tracking and all serious listening area such as home theater and music hall etc. - Pls. visit acoustic info page for details.

Q. How many panels should I use?

A. For a small room of 3m x 4m (10ft x16ft ) 8 to 10 Afeo panels will give a significant improvement. 4 Afeo panels for corners as bass traps ( minimum required ), then front, rear, two side walls and ceiling for broadband absorption to eliminate unwanted reflection ( Flutter echoes ), for better result more panels should be add if possible for corners and tri-corners.

Q. Why Afeo is better than other similar products?

A. We believed AFEO design is much better than some other similar products in 5 major area :

1. Afeo is 100mm (4") thick. Thickness is a major factor in broadband sound absorption, by placing only 50mm (2") spacer behind panel, Afeo easily reach the optimal thickness of 150mm without adding weight to the panels.

2. Right Density of acoustic material used to ensure linear absorption, other may use higher density, but recent study shows that there is No improvement at all in terms of sound control, in fact, using overly high density material may turn them into narrow band panels, good only in one single frequency but bad on all others frequencies. Narrow band panel should be used in some specific situation advised by pro acoustician. As a commercial product, broadband panel is the best choice!

3. More style choice than other similar products. Afeo has many decorative out look to choose from.

4. Easier Installation and flexibility, you may either hang AfeoPanel flat against wall horizontally as well as vertically with our special designed backing bar or place AfeoPanel off the wall with afeo spacers to increase acoustic efficiency.

5. AFEO Rack can hold 1 large and 2 small panels at once and angling top panel with ease.

Q. If I can only afford 4 panels now, where should I place them?

A. Case 1. Using 4 panels is not enough for room acoustic treatment. If this is your only choice for now, we suggest that you should take full advantage of Afeo design, use them as bass traps by placing them across Corners (cause all room have bass problems, and high frequency issue is much easier to deal with comparatively), then use whatever material, like foam, drape or wall carpet to control reflection. But remember, they're effective only for higher frequencies. Using only carpets and foam as room treatment mostly creating a dead and muddy sounding room! This should be taken as a suggestion for temporary treatment. You should replace these thin material with Afeo whenever it is possible.

Case 2. By using only 3 or more panels, you may create a small acoustic place for Vocal and/or instrument tracking, they help for better music practicing too!

Q. Why corners are so important?
A. Cause all room modes meet at corners, modes are our no.1 enemy, treating corners is the first priority of all Pros.

Q. Will it be better if placing panels very closed to each others?
A. No! You don't have to. All sides of Afeo Panel is designed to absorb sound as well, Afeo modular design will add diffusion to your room, preventing a room sounding too dead. So leave space between panels. Spaces of 120cm (2fts) between panels will give you a more live sounding room. And spacing of about 60cm (1ft) between panels will give a a better control of room reverbaration, that is good for mixing room or small vocal booth.

Q. What is a diffuser? and where we put them?
A. A diffuser is used to reflect (diffuse) sound in a wider angle to form a wider listening sweet spot, Diffusers create nice ambient for tracking and keep your room from sounding too dead. For a bigger live room, you can place them almost anywhere, its' depending on how much diffusion you want. For a mixing room, put them on rear wall behind the engineer. Check out here.
